Riley Bruce

Kia Ora I'm Riley, PDGA #134392, born and raised in Wanaka and began playing when the Lismore park course was installed in 2013. My introduction to throwing discs came from Brodie Smith trick shots, trying to emulate the basketball hoop hammer throws, when I wanted to become more competitive throwing discs the only opportunity in Wanaka was through disc golf.

The highlight of my disc golf career so far was winning the 2021 Moonbase VII Twizel tournament for my first MA1 tour title. I also had success as a junior back in 2015/16 with a South Island and National title in the Junior division.

I am a passionate sportsman with a degree in Sports and Exercise Science and I am excited to continue to apply my skills learned through the degree into disc golf. I enjoy applying it through analysis of the movement patterns through a throw and also the psychological side of breaking down the course.

The support I've been given through NZDSS and now Ocean Discs has allowed me to help open people to the benefits they can gain from playing disc golf, the socialising, exercise and beauty of how a disc flies. Applying myself in casual coaching helps people improve and enjoy the game more. I'm excited to keep getting discs into people's hands and growing the game. Fun Fact. Riley's first PDGA Tournament was also Olli's first PDGA Tournament the 2016 New Zealand Disc Golf Championships, at Tuckers Beach, Queenstown, New Zealand.
