The Flying Fish takes its name from nature's real long distance glider. To take off, a flying fish accelerates underwater to speeds of over 35 mph (56 km/h), beating its tail up to 70 times a second before breaking the surface and spreading its wing-like pectoral fins to glide on ocean air currents. A single glide can cover around 650 feet (200 m), and by tapping its tail back into the water for a quick boost, a flying fish has been recorded travelling up to 1,312 feet (400 m) and staying airborne for 45 seconds. The Flying Fish Journey

We are open about how our discs are developed, including the parts that took more than one attempt.

The first Flying Fish went to the PDGA in January 2025 and did not pass. The leading edge came back sharper than the radius gauge allows, and the rim configuration score fell short of the minimum. Most manufacturers keep results like that quiet and we published ours.

The second run corrected the leading edge. Our prototype testers told us the inner rim still was still not right, so we paid for a new mould insert rather than call it good enough. We never sent that version to the PDGA, because there was still room to improve.

The third run came out of that reworked mould. It passed the PDGA approval process on 7th September 2026, one and a half years after we started, and it feels fantastic in the hand.

It is also the first disc we have moulded from 100% ocean waste plastic. That was the goal from the very start, back when we launched the Sea Turtle, so reaching it now feels like we have finally caught the tide.

The earlier Flying Fish runs were made before approval, so they are not PDGA legal and cannot be used in sanctioned play. They fly well in casual rounds and they are the only ones there will ever be made.
